For example, in certain areas of the United States, tests are only given to those who are hospitalized or extremely ill. Therefore, the number of cases is probably much higher than what the CDC and WHO report. This is likely true in some of the Water For People country programs, as testing kits are still difficult to find and take a long time to receive results.<\/p>\n

They are mothers in India, children in Peru and families in Rwanda. We are all affected by the COVID-19 virus regardless of our location."<\/em>My thoughts don't stop there. She reminds me a lot of health workers like Priscilla from the Kamwenge District of Uganda. Their clinic now has safe and reliable water thanks to Water For People's efforts there. But she is among the lucky ones. Dear Water For People Supporters,\u00a0As we\u202fall\u00a0begin to navigate the various\u202fCOVID-19-related challenges in our own communities, we wanted\u00a0to share\u00a0the ways\u00a0Water\u00a0For\u00a0People is\u202fnavigating\u202fthe challenges in the nine countries where\u00a0we work. The extent of the virus outbreak, as well as the response in each country, has varied. We continue to monitor the\u00a0rapidly-changing\u00a0landscape with daily check-ins with country teams.\u202f\u00a0First and foremost, the safety of\u202four teams and communities is our top priority. Therefore, our\u00a0global\u00a0employees (including U.S.-based headquarters staff)\u202fare now working remotely whenever possible. Our Information Technology (IT) team has been busy ensuring teams can work remotely and\u202fstay connected despite challenges\u202flike unreliable electricity and tenuous internet connections. We now\u202ffeel confident in our ability to maintain workflows and communications that rely on IT.\u202f\u00a0At this time of year,\u00a0our\u00a0teams are typically\u202fbusy\u202fmonitoring\u202fwater service levels\u00a0as part of\u00a0annual monitoring and evaluation efforts. This work is temporarily\u202fdelayed, since is it often done by door-to-door survey. We are\u00a0also\u00a0in the process of\u202fre-evaluating work plans and timelines related to construction and completion of water and sanitation systems.
